I had a book written on vellum, I think it was a devotional book I bought in Lalibella from a poor farmer. It had alot of hand written icons. It was beautiful, then I sold it on ebay for like 1000x what I paid for it. I also have an authentic picture of Haile Selassie I and it has my ex-girlfriends father in the picture as a child. I think he even wrote on the back.

I've also been researching the art and symbolism of Ethiopian / Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Icons. I would recommend heading to you local Ethiopian Orthodox Church by searching "Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Near Me". A majority of these churches have a facebook page where you can preview their iconography. Digitally there are some manuscripts that have been digitalized (http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/Viewer.aspx?ref=or_615_f001r) with embedded icons and websites that are dedicated to EOTC Icons (https://ethioicons.wordpress.com/2019/11/08/saint-micheal-ethiopian-icon/). All of these resources are free and from the dissertations and thesis papers I read they contacted a church leader (abba "father") in Ethiopia to organize their stay there while doing fieldwork. In this regard fieldword means to get data for your research by being an eyewitness and conducting interview with locals and knowledgeable people of your topic.
I have only one idea... it might sound very dumb, but please, I beg you... listen to me... the lady in the paintings is similar to another lady of the catholic faith, and she is similar to another lady that came from spain... the lady is has a name. She lives in Mexico city, at the heart of the old Aztec empire. But before that, she was a statue of a mother much like this lady who was buried in Spain. Her name is Guadalupe. It is not an Aztec name, her apparition is miraculous, she appeared as an icon of an indigenous woman to an indigenous man name Juan Diego. Her shrine is the most visited of the catholic faith. Catholics generally prefer statues, but she appeared on a piece of fabric, please read her story. The other lady, from Spain, was a catholic statue which was buried in Spain and miraculously re discovered. The Catholics believe that the manifestation in the painting on the fabric, is the lady from the book of revelation chapter 12. She has been known as this lady for over 600 years. The statue from Spain is not known as well to me, but I am trying to find out everywhere I look. I can only tell you from a faithful catholic perspective (I was brought up in the faith, returning after some years) that the aparition on the fabric made sense even to the aztecs who beheld her. I encourage you to dive deep into her miracle, I believe that the woman in the book of revelation will be oneand the same as the lady sitting on the throne. I think, maybe, the baby she is carying could be biracial or many races. They say that the reason she chose to appear to Juan diego was because he was the smallest of her sons, an indian, who survived the colonization. In fact, even Hernan Cortez saw her. The colonization took place only 15 years before. I still need to look into the original statue of the lady inSpain, I hope this is somehow helpful,
